What a difference a day makes

After yesterdays gloriously warm weather, it was back to the traditional British fayre of cooler temps and drizzly rain. Looking at the outside thermometer, the temperature was virtually half what it was yesterday! As it was Sunday it mean't 'long run', if I was going to be running everyday in June I thought I'd better reign in the miles today and 'just' go for a 14 miler!

The route for today would take me out through the town and Tatton Park, around the Airport on the Runway 2 Trail and back home across farmers fields. I remembered to take water today, more for the distance rather than the heat (or lack of). The Saturday night shannanigans were still evident by the occasional discarded beer bottle as I traversed the main road through the town.

In to Tatton Park and it is a 2 mile run along the trails to the left of the main lake and out through the top end of the park. Despite the large amount of rain over the last month, the trail was still mainly sandy probably due to the tree coverage. On to the main road out of the park and there was a steady procession of classic cars travelling to the classic car show being held in the park this weekend - nice wheels! Now the worst part - a dead straight mile and a half road. I kept close to the side as some cars treat this as a drag strip albeit a 60 mile an hour zone!

On through Ashley village and along the country lanes getting ever closer to Manchester Airport, very evident now by the low flying planes on final approach. Despite the new 2nd runway, a great trail has been built encircling the end of the runway. There is still an abundance of wildlife and nature reserves. Off the trail and now into the final four miles, my legs are feeling good today. A few more narrow country lanes and onto the trail around the Ilford's site - a guantlet of nettles and thorns!

I don't know how I managed to avoid the rain as there were dark clouds all around. I just seemed to have managed to run in the narrow window of sun/cloud. The final couple of miles across the farmers fields and into Booths Park and back home to round off an enjoyable 14 miles for a 50+ mile week. 5 down 25 to go...
